The region

Labruguiere_carte_pays_autan_682.jpg

Traversed from east to west by the Tarn and its tributaries, the Dadou, Agout and Thoré, bathed in the north by the tributaries of the Aveyron, the Tarn department offers a diversity of landscapes that reflect a relief that oscillates between gentle hills, broad plains and cuestas to the west and north, and valleys mountains to the east and south.

History has shaped the department according to the invasions, the various settlements and the battles that took place there since the first appearance of the man until the deadly conflicts of the 20th century: Roman occupation, barbarian invasions, crusades against the Albigeois, Wars of Religion, French Revolution, First and Second World Wars, without forgetting the various stages of the industrialization of the country.

All of this results in a particularly rich and varied heritage, classified at UNESCO as the episcopal city of Albi or the church of Rabastens, part of the ranking of the most beautiful villages in France for Lautrec, Monestiès, Puycelsi, Castelnau- de-Montmiral, or reflecting the new urbanization of the Middle Ages with the bastides or hamlets of Cordes-sur-Ciel, Réalmont, Villeneuve-sur-Vere, Montdragon, Lisle-sur-Tarn ... and many others.

Many castles and the churches, abbeys and cathedrals. The Castrais Country and the Black Mountain, whose northern slope Tarnais is entirely covered with large pine forests, are located in the southernmost part of the Massif Central. The Arnette, which takes its source in the Pic de Nore, at 1200 meters altitude crosses Mazamet and flows into the Thoré, a tributary of Agout. Castres stretches at the foot of the Mountain in a rugged territory, crossed by Agout and Arn, in the heart of a country rich in heritage to discover, Labruguière to Soual, through Caucalières or Viviers- mountains.

An exceptional heritage that is shared between bricks and stones for the feast of the eye of the visitor. That's why we invite you to discover the Ségala Tarnais, Plateau Cordais, the treasures of the Albigensian and Tarn valley, the Gaillac and the country of country houses, the Pays de Cocagne, the Monts d'Alban, the Sidobre and the Monts de Lacaune, which are close to Labruguière of the Castrais country and the Montagne Noire.

We also invite you to discover beautiful cities such as Toulouse, Carcassonne, Castelnaudary and the small village of Fayssac ...
